Brewery: Hausbrauer Thundorf
Town: Thundorf

Style: Pale Ale

Color: in Krug so no visuals but unfiltered amber

Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: Galaxy
hops
Body: medium

Palate:
balanced, Galaxy hops
Finish: lingering, dry, semi-bitter

Served: on tap at the Bessenauschank.

Impression: Hausbrauer Thundorf Hopfengschmäckle is a good example of
Craft Beer meeting a communal brewery in Lower Franconia. There’s lots of Galaxy hops in the otherwise balanced palate. The lingering finish is quite dry and semi-bitter. It’s an interesting beer but not what I’d come all this way to drink. I’d like stick with their Hausbrauerbier next time. Their Bessenauschank is a well worth it event if you can make your way out to Thundorf. It’s the only place to find Hausbrauer Thundorf Hausbrauerbier on tap.

  1. I likely asked you this previously…apologies if I did. Do you go to /have you been/are you attending this years Frankisch Bierfest in Nuremberg? Looks like a lot of beers available, including some craft ones. I enjoyed going a few times in the past 12 years.

    1. Yes. I’ve been quite a few times but haven’t made it the last few years. I was planning on going this year but other things took precedence. Rumor has it they will change the location and that was my main reason to return. Hopefully, it’s not true and I can experience it yet again.

  2. Change location? I like the current location. What a setting. Nothing in the states can compare at all. I read that last year they added a smaller glass and pour – when I went the smallest size was half liter. That may be what I normally order but when trying to sample 100 beers it is not conducive to sampling. Now can get 2 ounce and 4 ounce pours or some such. I was considering going if I ever can time my trips right but a different location could impact that.

    1. I think they know it’s a great location but maybe getting pressure to take it out elsewhere. We’ll see what becomes of it. I sure hope it’s not the case. It is always the weekend of Corpus Christi so easy to time it. I don’t really like trying a lot of little beers. I’d rather settle into a few Seidla. I think you lose the feel of beers if you drink too many different ones. I guess I have had most of the beers there before so not as pressured.

      1. Just read that due to some city anniversary celebration they are redoing the castle moat area, possibly making a new green space and that space will be hosting the celebration. After the moat is refurbished sounds like the bierfest organizers are not sure if they will still be able to use that area.
