Dingslebener Lava Schwarzbier
Brewery: Metzler
Town: Dingsleben
Style: Schwarzbier 6%
Color: deep mahogany, almost black
Head: ivory, rocky
Nose: roasty malt
Body: medium to full
Palate: balanced, richly malty, roasty, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet
Served: from a bottle bought at Pension Rangerhof in Bad Colberg.
Impression: Dingslebener Lava Schwarzbier is a classic example of the style. The near black deep mahogany hue is topped with a rocky ivory head. The nose is expectedly roasty as is the richly malty palate. Lingering underlying hops creep in as it warms for a semi-dry bittersweet finish.

I'm an American living in Munich and Bamberg. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found Beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria and lead beer hiking experiences for those who love beer & nature. View all posts by beerwanderers
