SpielLust Erlebnisrestaurant is quite handy as it’s right in the Sonneberg train station. So, even with a short layover, you can grab a beer or meal.

SpielLust Erlebnisrestaurant is quite possibly the nicest train station restaurant in Germany. Opened in 2024, it features lots of toy elements from teddy bears to mannequins dressed in train conductor attire. With its convenient location, it’s worth peeking in even if you’re not hungry or in the mood for a beer. Of course, if you’re reading this page, you probably don’t fall in the latter category.

They are open from morning until late afternoon. So, they even have breakfast items if passing through early. The full menu is available all day. Along with their regular menu, they have daily specials. Noted also was a good range of cakes if looking for your 16:00 coffee (or beer!). I had both the Gessner Original Festbier and Alt-Sumbacher Dunkel, both perfectly poured. I opted for the daily special, a rich Schweinebraten with potatoes, red cabbage and a small salad.

I really enjoyed my visit to SpielLust Erlebnisrestaurant. The service was friendly and efficient. The beers were poured perfectly, as well. So, I imagine I’ll return again next time in Sonneberg.
