Schönbrunn im Steigerwald is located 20 km southwest of Bamberg in Upper Franconia. Nestled in the hills of the Steigerwald Nature Park, there are numerous hiking possibilities in the area and it was once home to two small regional breweries. Much like those in surrounding villages, they stopped brewing some time ago but their outlets remain open with contract beers.

There is the argument to not support those who go the contract route but I am not one to make business decisions for other people. There could be any number of good reasons for it. This particular area has been particularly hard hit and it’s not easily reached by public transportation so making a journey here might not be important enough. I went specifically to visit the Bähr Keller and felt it was worth the effort. Having been there, I now hope to return to check out both of the old brewpubs in town.
