Brauerei Bähr was founded in 1870 and sadly stopped brewing in 2004. Their one beer is now contract brewed by Göller in Zeil. Their brewery tap is temporarily closed but looked to be very well-kept when I walked by it in August 2024. I hope it is open in non-Keller months. The Keller is doing a thriving business and it’s easy to see why.

the Bähr Keller ticks all the boxes

It’s an atmospheric Bierkeller right from the stone facade entrance and elevated multi-level seating. We weren’t there for it but reportedly, they have some of the best sunset views of all Franconian Kellers. The playground is elaborate but rustic, as you hope to see in such a setting. The above seating was popular and full by the time we left. There is a cozy inside area for inclement weather as a bonus.

lots of great spots to sit

Their sole beer, labeled a Pils, was excellent and though hoppy, not anything like a typical one. I’d heard their pizza was good but it didn’t look like my style and the Brotzeit was hausgemacht so I opted for it and was glad I did. It was excellent quality and size. My friends got the Gerupfter and it was one of the better ones I’ve had.

A tasty beer & Brotzeit at Bähr Keller

While it’s sad that Brauerei Bähr no longer exists, I’m sure happy this Keller does and I’d rather see it serving a contract beer than Mönchshof or some other typical replacement beer. It’s a great Bierkeller I’d be happy to return to and I could drink quite a few of their beers too.

Beers on tap: Bähr Pils
