Founded in 1880, Buttenheim’s Löwenbräu has been in the same family for four generations, being passed down from father to son no less. It’s a regional favorite so don’t mistake those signs around the area for the inferior lion in Munich. A bustling country inn with great value excellent food, it’s often packed. It doubles as a guesthouse so rooms are available and when I had a room here in 1997, it was the only time I managed to get a table to eat in this fine inn. I don’t remember what I had and have no photos but I do know I want to make a point of returning to rectify both of those things.
They have a fine beer range but most people drink the ordinary Lager, which is anything but ordinary. I did get to have one of these after eating at the “other” brewery next door recently.
