Lahma Bräu is a brewing club in the small town of Langenzenn. First mentioned in 954, Langenzenn lies in the Fürth country of Middle Franconia. Noted as an important producer of bricks (Lahm in their dialect), the brewery took its name from it rather than the animal lama. The charming little town has a smattering of lovely buildings and quite a number of stork nests in a concentrated old town center. Home to the yearly Kolb’s Kellerfest, it’s perhaps the best day to visit. It’s easily reached in 20 minutes via regular trains from nearby Fürth.

History & tradition
Lahma Bräu was founded in 2012 by a group of trained hobby brewers. Following their night course on brewing, they decided to revive local brewing traditions. The last brewery in Langenzenn stopped brewing forty years ago. Lahma Bräu comes from the local dialect for brick. The town was a noted producer for over 400 years. They currently have 49 members and completely renovated the building and facility in 2024. This helped Lahma Bräu win the Goldene BierIdee for their reviving of local beer customs.

Storks in the background
Lahma Bräu brews once a year at the historical old Kraiserforfer Hofbräuhaus. This well-preserved former communal brewery is part of the Open Air Museum in Bad Windscheim. Utilizing the old equipment, including a cool ship, they brew a dark traditional Franconian lager.
Lahma Bräu has their regular brewing system in an old historic milk house. They brew a variety of beers and hold quite a few events a year.

a peek in the window
I attended the Kolb’s Kellerfest in Langenzenn in July of 2026. I messaged one of the Lahma Bräu members about having a look at the brewery. He answered that it was quite a busy day for the small team and that he’d happily show it to me the next day. I had other plans, so I just had a peek in the window on the way to the Kolbskeller. I hope to return for one of their regular events, which take place onsite.
Beers: Lahma Bräu Hell. Seasonal: Lahma Bräu Dunkel, Lahma Bräu Nr. 1, Lahma Bräu Weizen, Porter, Simco, Whisky Bock, Schlotfegerla.

a very local Fest
What is the Kolb’s Kellerfest
The Kolbchlucht is a traditional rock cellar once used to store beer among other supplies. To help bring the cultural significance of this important structure to the public consciousness, the town decided to hold a yearly Kolb’s Kellerfest. Located on Turnstrasse, they set up a Biergarten right at the mouth of the cave. Live bands play and free tours are available.

local beers & brats
Of course, a festival celebrating a beer storage cellar has to serve beer. So, why not the very local Lahm Bräu brews? I quite enjoyed the Lahma Bräu Hell and swore I’d get a second until I tried the Lahma Bräu Dunkel. The Bratwurst was excellent, as well.
I most enjoyed my first visit to the Kellerfest am Kolbskeller. The setting was super. I spoke briefly with the member who had offered to show me the brewery the next day but I was satisfied with my first encounter with not only the Kolb’s Kellerfest but also the Lahma Bräu beer. My guess is I’ll be back. If not for this festival, for one of the others. One thing is for sure, I want to have the Lahma Dunkel again!
Back to towns or search for brewery by name.
