Founded in 1580 but sadly stopped brewing some 430 year later in 2010. Though it’s never a good thing when such an institution ceases operation, the beer is at least being contract brewed by Eder & Heylands Brauerei nearby. The atmospheric old pub is still up and running and offers great and quite large meals to a turn away crowd. I’d rather see that than it close its doors or even serve the beer of another brewery entirely.
We had a wonderful lunch here and the Dunkles beer was not only quite good but I thought better than any of the ones offered by Brauhaus Faust. A liter mug of the stuff was a great deal and since we had some time to kill, I went for it and was glad I did. I also had an amazing Rouladen, a rolled flank steak filled with bacon, onions, pickles and new to me, horseradish.

Rinderroulade & still tasty Dunkles
My wife and father both had Kohlroulade (stuffed cabbage) and were very happy with them, too. Though stuffed, we even went for a seasonal dessert of plum dumplings.
