Gleis 1 Alter Bahnhof Frensdorf is the former rail station on the line which once ran to Schlüsselfeld. Sadly, this ceased operating in 1981. The route is now serviced by buses, though not as frequently, unfortunately, as the old trains. That said, there are direct buses from Bamberg. I had to walk to nearby Pettstadt, however, to get a bus back.

Gleis 1 Alter Bahnhof Frensdorf brings the disused old train station back to life. Beautifully renovated in 2022, the a cozy interior has a bit of a western American bar feel. It’s adorned with memorabilia of various sorts that someone all mesh together. There’s also a nice looking Biergarten out front but it wasn’t the kind of day to sit outside when I visited.

The old station made a big splash during the Bockbieranstich season. They had quite a few events featuring some fairly tough to get Bocks. I never made it out to any due to the late starts and lack of return buses. So, I finally ventured out for to an early dinner when I heard they had Krug (Geisfeld) Maibock on tap. Their regular beers aren’t too shabby either: Krug Lagerbier, Keesmann Herren Pils and Möchsambacher Weizen.

The food
Gleis 1 – Alter Bahnhof Frensdorf offers typical American bar food. So, expect burgers, pizza and even chili con carne. There are, however, some healthier salad options as well. I opted for the chili and it was pretty damn good.
I’m sure I’ll make more of an effort to return when they have another Bock event now. I’d likely go even more often if it were open for lunch, when buses are more frequent.
Beers on tap: Brauerei Krug (Geisfeld) Lagerbier, Keesmann Herren Pils. Bottled Mönchsambacher Weizen. Seasonl beers like Krug (Geisfeld) Maibock.
