Founded in 1872, this fine family inn is a stone’s throw from nearby Bamberg. With a full hot menu and a handful of excellent brews, it’s well worth the small effort it takes to get here by bus. It’s full of old wood charm and the small Biergarten out back is fine place to spend a few sunny hours. With the brewery right on the premises, you know it’s fresh.

The day we stopped by, it was quiet. The Sandkerwa was going full-force in Bamberg and we were looking for somewhere to have a nice big meal prior. Gasthof Müller was perfect. It was nice so we sat out back and the first sip of the Dunkles Vollbier was enough to let us know, it was worth the trip.

We both opted for the Kalbsrahmbraten (roast veal in a creamy mushroom sauce) and knew immediately this wouldn’t be the last time to venture here.  I decided to have their Micherla (an unfiltered Pilsner) in spite of how good the dark beer was, and it was also an excellent brew.  They are noted for carp so will return in an “R” month soon.

We recently stopped in November for a quick Bock as it was on tap but should have used the takeout window to ensure getting the bus back to Bamberg as we only had 20 minutes. As it was, the service was a little slow and we missed it so decided to have a snack as the next one was an hour later. We had a lovely pumpkin soup and tasty if a bit fatty smoked meat plate.
