Catwheezle’s Castle is one of the most popular late night pubs in Bamberg. Considering its out of the direct center location, that’s saying something. With a series of small spaces, it has an intimate feel and those who like low lighting will be happy to spend the evening there. Named after its offbeat founder in 1992, it draws an eclectic crowd.
darkly atmospheric
I find the beer selection a bit pedestrian in that there’s not one dark beer on tap but they obviously know what their clientele drinks and the dearth of non-smoke dark beers in town is not their fault alone. I personally preferred the old Strawanza up the street but that changed hands in 2023 and was never the same. That looks to be either closing or searching for a new tenant/owner now again anyway.

No food but people were bringing food in from neighboring spots.
