Brauerei Schroll is the lone remaining old style brewpubs in Reckendorf and remains the one place you should visit if making your way out this way.

Founded in 1870 and still operated by the Schroll family, this cute half-timbered house is not hard to find in this small village. The simple interior is timeless and locals are heard discussing life near and afar. Evidently, they serve large roast meals for events. It was a simple snack menu when I was there.
I had their Urtrunk, which was a nice malty brew and a pair of Bratwurst that took quite long to come out. As you can see from the photo, they are quite well-cooked and perhaps that is what took so long. No worries, they were good and it was easy for me to have a second beer. Unfortunately, even though it was December, their Bock was not available.

With their reopening in January 2024 after a brief closure, I’m looking forward to a return but saw a bottle of their Ur-Trunk and gave it a try. It was more balanced and dry than I had remembered. It will be interesting to resample on tap this spring.

I unfortunately didn’t get back to Brauerei Schroll until late August 2024 for their annual Kerwa. They brewed a special richer, darker Kerwabier for the occasion. I went the for the opening day Schlachtschüssel and it was very much a small village affair.
