Founded in 1778, this small village brewpub is a popular stop for hikers and bikers alike, who flock from nearby Bamberg and even closer Scheßlitz for their renowned Dunkles Lagerbier and tasty warm and cold dishes. On the edge of a pretty forest that will bring you scenically to the atmospheric Castle Geichburg, Köttensdorf has few sights in the village itself aside from the village pub with its rustic wooden interior and fine beer.

Hoh’s rustic interior & their Helles in krug and Bock
We didn’t have much time as we had to catch a bus in Scheßlitz about 45 minutes from our arrival and we had a good half hour hike back to town! So, I got their very tasty Bock and my wife got their equally nice Helles. I guess we’ll have to come back again for their Dunkles Lagerbier. As it was, we got to the bus stop about three minutes before the bus.

grilled Haxen night at Hoh
I finally managed a return visit and in summer no less so got to sit in their pleasant and busy courtyard. It was grilled Haxen Friday but I’d had a big lunch and couldn’t even think about tackling one of these monsters. Most were drinking the Dunkles Lagerbier but I did see a few people drinking their Helles. We didn’t have much time so I opted for the beer I’d missed on my first visit which revealed itself to be a dry, low carbonation quaffer.
