Founded in 2019, this small brewery caters largely to locals who come for their wood-fired pizza on Fridays and chicken on Saturdays. It was more or less an extension to the owner’s house with a wooden overhang enlarging the smallish interior. Beyond that, there was an open area with more portable protection from the elements along with some attractions for the kiddies. It was a nice green space in general.

the beer & food

We got there not long after the opening time and most tables were full or reserved. The server asked if we had a reservation and looked unconvinced when we said no. She went in to check and came out saying it was full. When we asked if we could sit beyond the overhang, she gave said it would be okay. There were quite a few beers on the menu but she explained that only the Festbier and Bochbräu (a dunkles Märzen) were available. We ordered the former and by the time she returned, we ordered a pizza to split. It was a good thing as another person asked to sit with us and when he tried to order a pizza, she said if he hadn’t preordered it, it wasn’t possible. Much as we wrangled sitting in the back, he managed to get a pizza.  We got the dark beer next.

 the atmospheric old world interior

It was a unique experience but it’s quite out there so not sure I’d return. The pizza was certainly good value if not mind-blowing. Beers were a tad sticky for my tastes but certainly popular with the locals. If you’re going, I’d suggest calling ahead for a reservation and stipulating you are planning on eating. From what I read, the chicken on Saturday must be pre-ordered. Though that’s not the case for the pizza, it seems they only make so many so get there early. It seems odd to spend a lot on a pizza oven and only use it once a week but they seem to be doing well and it looks to be more a a hobby/side income rather than a full time endeavor.

Beers on tap:

Generally two of the following-Öschicher Festbier, Öschicher Hell, Kellertrunk (bernsteines Märzen), Bauer’s Pils, Bochbräu (dunkles Märzen), Füscher’s Ur-Weizen.
