Opening hours:
Check their website for their schedule. It’s generally six times a year (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and twice a year for a five day stretch but always 17:00-20:00. It appears to be a warm weather schedule so plan accordingly. There is some seating inside where you pick up your beer so even on a rainy day, you could go.

The history:
Konrad Lang Bäckerei was one of many bakeries which doubled as breweries back in Bayreuth’s communal brewing days, dating back to 1623. The bakery has been in the same family for 250 years but they stopped brewing during WWII and decided to concentrate on their prime occupation. They did, however, maintain the right to brew beer and they decided in 1995 to bring beer back into the fold. Unfortunately, time restraints meant having it contract brewed by local Bayreuther Bierbrauerei. The current owner explained that it is indeed done according to his wife’s grandmother’s family recipe.

The beer, food & service:
There is a little food truck on the side of the bakery where you place your order. Grab a table and note it’s number as you’ll need it. They’ll bring the food to your table and give you a token for the beer. You go inside and get your beer. It was a simple menu but there were a few warm options. I went for a pair of Bierbeißerla (a Pfefferbeißer), and these were quite good. They came with a Vinschgerl, a crusty roll with a caraway flavor. The unfiltered Beck’n Bier was certainly tasty and worth checking out.
Service was super friendly and the owner enthusiastically explained the beer and history to me. It was bustling with locals who obviously return regularly. I’d do the same if in the area when it was open, especially if I see the dark beer is coming up.
Beers on tap:
Conny’s Beck’n Bier (light) or Jean Paul ‘ntrunk (dark) on tap. I got the impression the dark beer was spring and fall with the light beer being in the summer.
