Brauhaus Brünn is located in Brünn-Ebern, a small village nestled in the bucolic rolling hills of the Haßberg county of Lower Franconia. Only 45 km northwest of Bamberg, a 40-minute scenic car trip would bring you to the unassuming hamlet. Using public transportation is a much more involved affair. The closest town reachable by train is Ebern but that’s a 10km hike or cycle unless you’re lucky with an irregular bus. The logistics of how to get there are just your first obstacle. How to get into the communal brewery is the harder part.

The history of Brauhaus Brünn:
Founded in 1750, Brauhaus Brünn is one of the more established communal breweries in Lower Franconia. Housed in an historic old brew house, it’s utilized by families living in houses bestowed brewing rights. This is not uncommon in communal brewing areas where the property has the right so whoever owns it, inherits it as well. According to a friend who is a member of a neighboring communal brewery, they only brew once a year for the festival but each of the four current brewing families also brews a batch which they share with the other three. They all lager their take individually.

We were lucky to score a lift from friends on the Saturday evening of the Brauhausfest in May 2025. Without them, it would be a long walk and the weather was quite changeable that day! I’d had the beer previously at the BR Radl Tour in 2024 and it was a bit overly yeasty. This time around, it was settled, ale-like and excellent. It was also cheerily served from gravity dispense.

The food was another big plus with both the Bratwurst and Steaksemmel excellent as is typical at these Lower Franconian festivals. My wife had heard stories about the cakes I’d had at previous Fests and was happy to finally get to partake in this great value aspect.
