Zapfhahn is one of the nicest places on Sandstrasse which has a bit of a reputation for seedy pubs once you venture further down from Schlenkerla. Oddly enough, I stayed right across from it twice and never gave it much thought. Admittedly, it was during the week and I don’t go out much after dinner and those meals are generally taken at one of the brewery’s pubs. We made a point of stopping by after a COVID lockdown and were impressed with the nice touches in the cozy courtyard area.

nice touches set Zapfhahn apart

We had considered eating here but were unsure of the food quality so had already had lunch at Spezial before arriving. The burgers looked pretty good and ample. Everyone else there was getting one so we might be giving them a try on our next visit. I had the Huppendorfer Vollbier which was unfortunately quite fizzy but they do have a good selection. To be fair, our server looked to be doing everything from pouring beer, running food and clearing tables. For all I know, she was cooking too!  Even so, service was good and friendly. I popped into the pub itself to snap a photo. It was closed up until the next day due to COVID restrictions. It’s quite a nice room and surely I’d stop in for a beer in the evening on a future visit.

a good tap selection & swank interior

Beers: Huppendorfer Vollbier, Keesmann Herren Pils, Mahr’s Keller and Sonne Hell on tap plus one changing beer.

There is also an assortment of bottled beers organized by style on the Bierkarte.
