Situated right on the Tauber River, Unter den Linden was the biggest surprise of our recent trip to Rothenburg. I’d been to Landwehr-Bräu in nearby Reichelshofen for lunch and with the weather so fine, I just checked Google Maps for a Biergarten and this one came up. It’s a downhill walk from the old town (so a steep-ish walk back) but I’m glad I made the effort. It’s a really lush spot and scenic is an understatement.

a lush riverside location & Landwehr Altfränkisch on tap
I was happy to find they had the Landwehr-Bräu Altfrankisch on tap as it was my favorite of the beers I’d just sampled at the brewery. It was a quick stop before picking my wife up at the train station but I knew she’d love this place so knew we’d return together over the weekend.

nicely poured Landwehr-Bräu beers in the cute little Biergarten
True to form, we made it together the next day but had already eaten lunch so didn’t get to sample their food. We had bought some sausages at a butcher shop in town and they were a perfect snack to enjoy on the river with the dark beer. I resampled the Helles and though the best pour I’d had of it, it remained a distant second to the dark beer for us both.
If in Rothenburg in the summer, head down to the Tauber to enjoy the Landwehr-Bräu beers in about as nice a setting as you’ll ever find.
Beers: Landwehr-Bräu Hell, Landwehr-Bräu Toppler Pils and Landwehr-Bräu Altfränkisch.
