Set in a deep lush valley lined with rocky outcroppings, Pottenstein is one of the main gateway towns to the affectionately referred to as the Fränkische Schweiz (Franconian Switzerland). The town’s main street is strewn with half-timbered houses and just up the road is the Teufelshöhle (a large popular cave). With numerous hikes emanating from town, it’s a justifiably popular spot with hikers. There were three breweries up until the late 90s but only two remain but you’ll not go thirsty in Pottenstein.
