Diakonie Biergarten auf dem Zeilberg

Diakonie Biergarten auf dem Zeilberg is located in Maroldsweisach. This small village lies in the Hassberge county of Lower Franconia. Sadly, the bus from Coburg has been discontinued so getting there isn’t as easy as it once was. Once you get to Maroldsweisach, there is a nice hiking path to the top of the Zeilberg. You can continue and kind of circle the top of it.

history & setting

Biergarten auf dem Zeilberg is a project of the Diakonie group. The goal is to help persons with intellectual or cognitive disabilities feel more a part of the world around them. By giving them a meaningful purpose in life and encouraging interaction with the general population, it is hoped to raise general levels of confidence and happiness. This lovely beer garden is surely an idyllic place for such an endeavor. Founded in 2005, it is a garden oasis atop the Zeilberg. Well-spaced seating, including some spots for inclement weather, along with some down on the farm furnishings make the place feel very homey.

the beer & food at Biergarten auf dem Zeilberg

Diakonie Biergarten auf dem Zeilberg offers a small simple Brotzeit menu along with a few daily specials. The real draw is the Raab Zeilberg Dunkel, evidently brewed for them. I’d had it from a bottle a few years ago and once I saw it was on tap, I made an effort to get here. It went well with their Gerupfter. Places like this always have cake, and coffee, but I was saving myself for Brauerei Hartleb, down the hill in town.

The lovely Diakonie Biergarten auf dem Zeilberg is a great stop if in the area, but it’s sadly not quite as easy to get to as it was just a few months ago. Let’s hope they bring that bus back.

Raab beer: Zeilberg Dunkel on tap. Bottled  Frangn Seidla, Pils, Weißbier.

Back to Gößweinstein or towns.
