Schwind Bräu history
Schwind Bräu traces its roots to 1761 and the Brauereiwirtshaft Zum Goldenen Rose. The Schwind family took over in the mid-1800s and grew the brewery far beyond its modest inception. WWII brought great hardship but the family fought hard to maintain the progress they’d made. Sadly, with advancing age, they sold in 1987. Its reputation was enough for the name to remain intact. They produce a large array of traditional beers as well as some seasonal beers.

the actual brewery & new Schwind am Dalberg
Schwind am Dalberg
Schwind am Dalberg opened in May of 2026. It’s not only the brewery tap of Schwind Bräu, it is also a test brewery for small batch specialty beers. This is readily on display right in the dining area. The bustling modern brewpub is in the central Dalberg neighborhood of Aschaffenburg. Along with the large array of beers on tap, it features an eclectic varied menu. Service is very attentive and friendly.

Beers on tap
Schwind am Dalberg has ten beers on tap and conveniently sells smaller size pours if you want to sample them all. I’d had their Helles naturtrüb at the Mainbiergarten the previous day so skipped it and its filtered counterpart. We had a nice long lunch so I was able to try everything else on offer except the Hefeweizen. All were quite good. My personal favorites were the Jubiläumsbier 1761, Dunkel and Export.

Food
Schwind am Dalberg has a small but well-chosen menu featuring some healthier options. We both opted for the Rahmchampignonschnitzel mit Treberpanade, a Schnitzel breaded in spent grain in a creamy mushroom sauce. It came with Spätzle, but they were happy to substitute a lukewarm potato/cucumber salad that was obviously homemade. We finished with an excellent affogato, made with high grade vanilla ice cream and a real espresso. This was our first visit and I can pretty safely say that we’ll be back whenever we return to Aschaffenburg.
Beers on tap: Schwind Bräu Export, Schwind Bräu Pils, Schwind Bräu Dunkel, Schwind Bräu Jubiläumsbier 1761, Schwind Bräu Helles, Schwind Bräu Helles naturtrüb (unfilstered) and Schwind Bräu Hefeweizen. Along with the seven regular taps, they generally have three seasonal or specialty beers. On our visit, they had two seasonals. The beer done onsite was a collaboration with a small area Craft brewery called the Schwind Bräu Headbanger Hopfen.
Beer calendar:
Schwind Bräu Josefator from Rosenmontag (Shrove Monday)
Schwind Bräu Festbier from June
Schwind Bräu Sommerhalbe from the end of August
Schwind Bru Festbock from the middle of October
