Brauhaus Buch is located in Buch, a small village nestled in the bucolic rolling hills of the Haßberge county of Lower Franconia. Only 7.5 km northwest of Schweinfurt, a 10-minute scenic car trip would bring you to the unassuming hamlet. You can reach it by bus via Theres and it’s only a 4.5 km walk from there. Reaching it as with all Franconian communal breweries is only half of your logistical problem. Getting to sample their beer unless you know a local means going to their Brauhausfest. They unfortunately only hold them every other year.

the walk from Untertheres was lovely despite the heat

The history of Brauhaus Buch:
Brauhaus Buch started brewing in 1714 and has been brewing continually ever since their inception. It is one of the more easily reached communal breweries in Lower Franconia but least accessible at the same time. According to a friend, it is run by three people with help from village volunteers. They brew for Buch residents and only sell beer to “outsiders” at their Brauhausfest, which they hold every other year.

Brauhaus Buch Brauhausfest 2025
Buch Brauhaus had the 2025 Brauhausfest in July and a raging success it was, with the brewery nearly running out of beer on the second day. We arrived about a half hour before the official Anstich but were happy to see people already drinking beer. We soon joined them. It was indeed a beer worth the walk. The food wasn’t quite ready so we got some cake as a starter. My wife was happy to see two different varieties of Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte so needless to say we had to try both.

Brauhaus Buch Hausbrauerbier & homemade cakes
The rustic Hausbrauerbier was gravity dispense and incredibly tasty. Though they were already serving when we arrived, there was an official tapping of another barrel at the stated 14:00 start time. Live traditional music ensued. The food was finally ready so we got Bratwurst and a Steaksemmel, though a typical Fest food, this one was better than most with lots of onion.

a rustic Franconian brew from the barrel & typical Fest food
It was a lovely festival and the first one my wife got to under our own steam. The walk there and back were highlights for us both so I imagine we will have the Brauhaus Buch Brauhausfest in our calendar for 2027.
