The setting

Set on the idyllic Riedsee, this fisherman’s club makes for a nice Biergarten in the summer months. It’s a fair-sized pond and I guess full of fish but I didn’t see any on their menu. There’s a bit of a camp feel to it. All the seats have some kind of view of their namesake body of water so good for their fisherman clientele. It’s self-service and the people pouring the beer/dishing out the food are friendly. It appears in winter there is an indoor area which was closed when I was there.

 a lovely stop: Riedseehütte

The beer & food

I had come to the Riedseehütte mostly as I’d heard they had Hetzel beer on tap and was super pleasantly surprised to find it from gravity dispense. The woman pouring the beer took her time and it was in great form. I got a little snack, a pair of Pfefferbeißer, nice cold sausages, which came with very fresh great quality bread. It’s most likely from the Kerling bakery in town. I can see how it would be popular with locals.

a tasty snack & beer

There was a decent little crowd despite the lackluster weather so I imagine it gets busy on a nice weekend. The beer was excellent and the food, while simple, is excellent quality. The Riedseehütte has a relaxed feel and I think I’ll be back here this summer. I’m happy I took the time to walk over and with its proximity to the train station, it will be a firm favorite when in Bad Staffelstein.
