The Beer Wanderer, aka Rich Carbonara, took our group on a 5 mile, 5 brewery hike through the Bamberg area in early September. It was a fantastic trip, with an easy hike through picturesque Franconian villages. We stopped at five small breweries to sample beers we would never have otherwise discovered, and had excellent food along the way. Rich was a wealth of information, and a great hiking buddy. This was the highlight of my weeklong visit to Germany. *One note – you can contact Rich and directly book tours through his beerwanderers website, which also has great information and blog posts on regional beers, breweries, and hikes.

I'm an American living in Munich. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also just published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria. View all posts by beerwanderers
