Brauerei Strauss was founded in 1797 and has been family owned since 1874. It prides itself on its traditional methods, as evidenced by their still using large wooden barrels and even offering them to private customers. While they brew a range of beers, this is one area where Märzen remains very popular. In fact, it’s the only beer available at the Wettelsheimer Keller, their designated brewery tap. On top of the chimney, there was an inactive stork’s next, not unusual in Franconia but still always cool to see.

Wettelsheimer Hell

I don’t see anything about tours on their website and they only list the Wettelsheimer Keller as an outlet but when I wrote them, they replied that there were to restaurants in town with their beers on tap. I went to the Gasthof Zum Goldenen Lamm for lunch and they had three and great food.

I generally only see their Helles in bottles at the station but hope to find their two Bocks at a beer shop a bit further out of town.
