Town: Kulmbach
Style: Weißbier 5.4%

Palate: fruity, light banana, residual yeast
Finish: lingering, fruity
Served: from a bottle bought in Munich
Impression: I wasn’t expecting much from this but with some Weisswürste to be eaten and the desire to have a new-for-me Weißbier, I finally took advantage of Kulmbacher’s surprising reach into Bavaria and got their Kapuziner Weißbier after seeing it on the local supermarket shelf for a few years. It poured gorgeously with a orange honeycomb hue and chiffon like ivory head. The fruity nose has the usual banana/yeasty elements which carry over to the fairly balanced palate. As with many beers in this style, it’s a touch sticky in the finish but less so than many. It’s a smidge less full-flavored than I’d prefer but the components are there and it goes well with my Weißwurstfrühstück. It’s cheaper than the local ones in Munich but I wouldn’t choose it over them again. That said, I’m glad I tried it and wouldn’t shy away from one closer to the admittedly conglomerate source.
