Hummel Weizenbock on tap
Brewery: Hummel
Town: Merkendorf
Style: Weizenbock 7.1%
Color: honeycomb
Head: white, creamy
Nose: fruity, banana, hint of yeast
Body: medium
Palate: fruity, banana
Finish: lingering, semi-dry
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I picked this Weizenbock up a few years ago and vowed to try it on tap but hadn’t been to the brewery tap in winter until recently. It seemed a little lighter with more pronounced banana in the nose. The biggest difference was a lack of a yeasty character which made the bottled version more refreshing and drier in the finish.

I'm an American living in Munich and Bamberg. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found Beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria and lead beer hiking experiences for those who love beer & nature. View all posts by beerwanderers
