Impression: Oddly named copper Rotbier which definitely has a gorgeous copper hue and ample off white head. The rich toasted malt in both the nose and palate are characteristic of the best Rotbiers and despite having not heard of this one from Wagner, it certainly falls into that category. Some caramel peeks through as it warms but it’s not in the least cloying. The lingering finish is just dry enough with a pleasant bitterness. Not sure either of the two Merkendorf breweries can brew a bad beer.
