Impression: Though it closing in on the expiration date I took a chance on this strong Bock I’d assumed was for lent due to the name. I’d missed the small print that it was a Dunkler Kellerbock so was surprised when it poured chestnut and unfiltered. I was also taken off guard by the light smoke in the otherwise richly malty nose, tinged with burnt caramel. The palate followed through with hops coming more to the forefront as it warmed. It seemed a tad thin considering its 7.2% alcohol content but it didn’t lack for flavor. Not sure its elements blend together perfectly but it’s an interesting Bock I’d buy again.
