Dreykorn Dunkel
Brewery: Dreykorn
Town: Lauf an der Pegnitz
Style: Dunkel 5.4%
Color: unfiltered chestnut
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: richly malty
Body: full
Palate: balanced, richly malty, some roast, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the Bierwerk in Nürnberg
Impression: This Dreykorn Dunkel is the first guest beer I’m trying at Bierwerk and it’s fairly evident that they either contract all of the Bierwerk beers or are heavily involved. It’s a much richer brew with some roast in the mix. It’s lush but not particularly quaffable. Probably a nice beer with a sauce-laden meal but definitely nothing to session on.
Next beer or back to the beer list.

I'm an American living in Munich and Bamberg. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found Beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria and lead beer hiking experiences for those who love beer & nature. View all posts by beerwanderers
