Rhönbrauerei Dittmar Rhöner Schwarze Hefeweizen

Brewery: Rhönbrauerei Dittmar
Town:
Kaltennordheim in Franconian Thuringia
Style: Dunkelweizen 5.2%

Color:
ruddy brown
Head:
ivory, bready, rocky, chiffon-like, yeasty
Nose:
fruity, roast malt, yeast
Body: medium
Palate:
balanced, fruity (cooked apple), roast malt malty, yeasty
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, very slightly bitter

Served: from a bottle bought at the brewery

Impression: Super looking Dunkelweizen with an ample creamy ivory head and light mix of cooked fruit and roasted malt in the nose. The balanced palate features a similar yeasty fruit aspect mixed with light roasted malt. The lingering finish is semi-dry, avoiding the cloying quality not untypical of the style while adding only a hint of bitterness. If a notch fuller flavored, this could be a favorite in the Franconian Dunkelweizen category for me.
