Rhönbrauerei Dittmar Rhöner Bock

Brewery: Rhönbrauerei Dittmar
Town:
Kaltennordheim in Franconian Thuringia
Style: Bock 6%

Color:
light amber
Head:
ivory, creamy, rocky
Nose:
light spicy hops, rich toasted malt
Body: medium to full
Palate:
balanced, richly malty, nice spicy, hint of caramel
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet

Served: from a bottle bought at the brewery

Impression: Surprisingly amber “Hellerbock” with an ample creamy head and rich hue. The light mix of spicy hops and rich toasted malt are enticing in the nose. The balanced palate features light caramel and a nice spicy hop element in the otherwise richly malty palate. The lingering finish is semi-dry and bittersweet. It certainly wouldn’t be out of its element labeled a Festbier but it’s not thin as a traditional Bock either. It’s a good example of being able to brew a 6% Bock that’s full-flavored and bodied. I’d like to get hold of their Doppelbock.
