Impression: I thought this was the Schwedentrunk when I ordered it as the owner said there was a Dunkel on tap. That was the dark beer I’d read about so an honest assumption. When I got my bill, I saw it was the Schmäußbräu. This appears to be the more popular lower alcohol version of it. It was what they had in bottles at the brewery tap as well. It was again a little on the fizzy side but once it calmed down, it proved to be a malty brew with both roast and grain in the nose and palate. The lingering finish could be surer, and I’d sure like it more. As it is, I like their Lucas Cranach best of their dark beers. After drinking the bottle I brought home, I’ll have to say I like it a lot more than my original impression. It’s got more hops in the palate and the finish is drier. I’ll have to get it again on tap next time in town.
