Kaiserhöfer Lucas Cranach

dark beer in pewter lidded mug with bottle
Kaiserhöfer Lucas Cranach

Brewery: Kaiserhof
Town: Kronach
Style: Old Franconian Lager 4.5%
Color: chestnut
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose:
malty, light grain, slight roast
Body: medium
Palate:
balanced, malty, lightly grainy, some roast
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter

Served: from a bottle bought in Kronach

Impression: This is brewed in commemoration of the town’s most famous son.  It’s a deep chestnut brew with a malty nose tinged with roast. This is in the Altfränkisch style with a balanced malty/roasty palate. The underlying hops make for a cleaner drier finish than the similar beer you find on tap in town, the Schmäußbräu. I would definitely rather drink this. It’s tastier even at a lower alcohol content.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
