Kaiserhof Pilsner on tap

Kaiserhof Pilsner

Brewery: Kaiserhof
Town: Kronach
Style: Pils 4.8%
Color: golden
Head: off-white, creamy, (bottle had huge rocky head)
Nose: light grain, hoppy
Body: medium
Palate: balanced
, lightly grainy, light hop
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter

Served: on tap at Bastion Marie in Kronach

Impression: I had planned on saving this for the brewery tap but got it at Bastion Marie since I had the time and the weather wasn’t great. It was a small pour and a little fizzy but my favorite beer from lunch. I never wound up having it at the brewery where I’m sure the pour would have been softer. Glad I picked up a bottle so I could have it on its own. It’s as remembered with fuller body than typical of a Pils and more malt backbone. This is offset well with fair hopping, making for a very balanced beer with a lingering semi-dry semi-bitter finish. It’s better than many but still in the good Helles category, which isn’t a detraction but a joke we like to make about Franconian Pils. Make no mistake though, the finish is more bitter than any Munich Helles.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
