Hummel Leonardi Bock

Brewery: Hummel
Town:
Merkendorf
Style:
Heller Bock 7.5%
Color:
deep golden

white, creamy, ample

richly malty, a touch of honey, floral hops
Body: full

Palate: richly malty, underlying floral
hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: from a bottle bought in Bayreuth

Impression: Though I had their Dunkler Bock on a tap, I’ve not managed to have this one which comes out at the same time. I had their Maibock this spring, thinking it might be a rebranded beer but it was 7% to this 7.5%. This richer brew is similar in its floral hops and hint of honey but it’s a bit less approachable. I felt like another when I had the Maibock but this one, as good as it was, tasted like a one and done. Of course, at this strength it’s hardly a criticism and with a Dunkler Doppelbock and Weizenbock on tap at the same time, maybe a blessing.
