Hetzel Frauendorfer Hell

golden beer in pewter lidded mug with bottle
Frauendorfer Hell

Brewery: Hetzel (Frauendorfer)
Town: Frauendorf
Style: Helles 4.4%
Color: golden
Head: white, bready
Nose: faint grain
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, grainy, underlying hops, malty
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter

Served: from a bottle bought in Bayreuth

Impression: With no pub of their own open, this small brewery seems to be expanding their bottle line. I wasn’t expecting much from this and was surprised to see it clock in at 4.4%. It’s still plenty malty as you’d expect from the style but the dial down of the alcohol content seems to let the hops shine. It’s hoppier than many a Franconian Pils and quite tasty for the strength.
