Glenk Heller Bock

golden beer in pewter lidded mug with bottle
Glenk Bräu Heller Bock

Brewery: Glenk Bräu (brewed by Becher-Bräu across the road)
Town:
Bayreuth
Style:
Heller Bock 6.5%
Color:
deep golden
Head: white
, creamy
Nose: richly malty, hint of caramel

Body:
full,
Palate:
balanced, richly malty, light caramel
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet

Served: from a bottle bought in Bayreuth

Impression: Though I was unimpressed with their Pils, I decided to pick up their Festbier and Bock since I was in Bayreuth shopping. Though a contract brew from Becher Bräu, this is a fair enough Heller Bock with a nice deep hue and rich malty nose with a hint of caramel. The richly malty palate has enough hops to dry it out in the lingering bittersweet finish. I love the 6.5% alcohol content and wish more breweries still kept theirs in this range. It makes them more quaffable, something important at an Anstich.
