Aufsesser Bock Dunkel

dark beer in mug with bottle
Aufesser  Bock Dunkel

Brewery:
Rothenbach (Aufsesser)
Town:
Aufseß
Style: Dunkler Bock 7%
Color: mahogany

Head: ivory, creamy, thinning

Nose:
richly malty, roasty, burnt caramel, Spalter hops
Body:
full
Palate: richly malty, mix of burnt caramel and roast

Finish: lingering, bittersweet

Served: from a bottle bought in Bayreuth

Impression: Lackluster pour but to be fair into a wide Seidla. Deep mahogany hue with ivory thinning head and fair nose of burnt toffee. Rich malty palate but somehow overpowered by a bitterness perhaps stemming from their use of both Spalter and Perle hops. It’s certainly not a run of the mill Dunkler Bock and I must admit to expecting a maltier and blander Bock. It’s interesting but I couldn’t drink more than one.
