Mönchshof Märzen

unfiltered amber beer in pewter lidded mug with swing top bottle
Mönchshof Märzen

Brewery: Mönchshof
Town:
Kulmbach
Style: Märzen 5.5
%
Color:
unfiltered golden
Head: white, creamy

Nose: malty

Body:
medium
Palate:
malty
Finish: lingering, sticky

Served: from a bottle bought in Munich

Impression: Disappointing from the get go, one of the palest Märzens I’ve ever seen. Oddly unfiltered and blandly malty with little else going on. It’s evidently fermented with cold acting yeast and stored for a long time at very cold temperatures. This leads to a smoothness bordering on tasteless. The beer I’d had the highest hopes from of this group of beers turns out to be a real dud.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
