Hopfenstopfer Comet IPA
Brewery: Häffner-Bräu
Town: Bad Rapenau
Style: tripple hop IPA 6.8%/55 IBU
Color: unfiltered light amber
Head: white, rocky
Nose: citrusy, black currant
Body: medium, very soft
Palate: balanced, citrusy, black currant
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: from a bottle bought in Bad Rappenau
Impression: I’d read a bit about Häffner’s sideline brewery Hopfenstopfer and though intrigued, I wasn’t about to plonk down five Euros for a small bottle at their pub. So, I was happy to find bottles of four of their Craft Beer offerings at a fraction of the cost, including this triple hopped IPA (Comet, Taurus, Saphir). This one has a lovely black currant element to complement the citrus hops. The lingering finish is semi-dry. Though the strongest of the four at 6.8%, it’s a dangerously drinkable double IPA. Lovely beer.
Cheers to “Dangerously Drinkable!”
