Schlenkerla Weichsel (Rotbier) from the barrel
Brewery: Heller (Schlenkerla)
Town: Bamberg
Style: smoke Rotbier 4.6%
Color: deep red
Head: off-white, creamy, ample
Nose: light smoke, rich malt, fruity
Body: medium, soft
Palate: balanced, light but sure smoke, fruity, quite dry
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: from gravity dispense barrel at the brewery tap
Impression: I unfortunately missed the barrel version at the first tapping on July 23rd so was happy to see it the following weekend, just two days after having it on regular tap. Due to the lack of added carbonation, it’s very soft and easy to drink but it’s a touch less dry than from the regular keg. It’s still drier than the competition and has a nice rounded fruity palate featuring a hint of berries I missed in the bottle, with a moreish lingering finish.
