Roth Lager

golden beer in pewter lidded mug with bottle
Roth Lager

Brewery: Roth
Town: Schweinfurt

Style: Lager 5.4
Color: deep golden
to pale amber
white, rocky, creamy
Nose: malty, hint of caramel

Body: medium

Palate: balanced, richly malty, light caramel, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, very slight bitterness

Served: from a bottle bought in Schweinfurt

Impression: Good looking Export with a pale amber hue and creamy head. Described as classic Franconian Lager, I find it lighter in color and stronger than is typical, hence my labeling it an Export. It’s got the rich malty palate you’d expect as well as fair hoping. The lingering finish is just dry and bitter enough to invite another sip. It’s not quite what I expected but I’m pleasantly surprised and would buy again.
