Impression: Another great looking beer from Martinsbräu with a deep chestnut hue, off-white rocky head and nose of burnt toffee. This is a heady malt forward contemplative beer at 7.5% with notes of toffee and dark bread. The lingering finish is just dry enough and bittersweet but I wouldn’t say it’s quaffable. The bitterness is very discernible despite the strong malt presence. It remains a sipper but one to seek out. I was surprised to find this in May but when I asked about the Maibock, I was told it had sold out quickly. A reason to return next April!
