dark beer in logo glass with bottle
Strecks Brauhaus Ostheimer Dunkel

Brewery: Strecks Brauhaus
Town: Osterheim vor der Rhön

Style: Dunkel 5.2
Color: chestnut

Head: off-
white, rocky, creamy
Nose: malty, light roast, Perle
Body: medium

Palate: balanced, touch of roast, Perle hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter

Served: from a bottle at the Zur Krone in Ostheim vor der Rhön

Impression: In an area where dark beers have all but disappeared, this roasty dark Vollbier is a welcomed sight. Not a chocolatey Munich Dunkles by any notion, this dry roasty Vollbier is likely closer to what was brewed in much of the area prior to the takeover of the lighter roasted malt. There’s a nice subdued grain element and the underlying hops dry the finish out without a lot of bitterness, making it a very sessionable dark beer.
