Staffelberg-Bräu Rogg Zwerchla
Brewery: Staffelberg-Bräu
Town: Loffeld
Style: Roggenbier
Color: unfiltered amber
Head: white, rocky
Nose: fruity, yeasty
Body: medium
Palate: fruity, yeasty, dry
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Not generally a Roggenbier fan but this was seasonal and on tap so gave it a shot and was surprised to see an amber beer come out. It was not only lighter in color but also much drier than anticipated. It was fruity and yeasty so in the Weizen family but certainly less sticky. For that reason alone, it’s my favorite in the style so far and won’t write them all off from now on.
