Rhönbrauerei Dittmar Pils
Brewery: Rhönbrauerei Dittmar
Town: Kaltennordheim in Franconian Thuringia
Style: Pils 4.9%
Color: golden
Head: white, rocky
Nose: light mix of grain and hops
Body: medium
Palate: dry, hoppy, light grain
Finish: clean, dry, bitter
Served: from a bottle bought in Ostheim
Impression: Nice looking Pils with a rocky head and mixed nose of hops and grain. Quite the dry hoppy palate but not overly bitter either. This is the kind of beer I don’t find in the States. Very dry but not overly bitter.
Next beer or back to the beer list.

I'm an American living in Munich. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also just published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria. View all posts by beerwanderers
I’ve never heard of Kaltennordheim, but it turns out to be not far from Meiningen (traditional theater city) and Suhl (where I did a presentation many years ago).
Must say I’d not heard of it either, Don but that’s how I find a lot of places…looking for beer. Quite a good one so I hope to visit the town one day to see where it’s from.
