Penning Bockbier

amber beer in glass with bottle
Penning Bockbier

Brewery: Penning Zeissler
Town: Hetzelsdorf

Style: Bock 6.5%
Color: deep amber
Head: off white, rocky
Nose: rich malt
, some caramel, bready
Body: full
Palate: richly malty, caramel, faint grain, pumpernickel
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet

Served: from a bottle bought in the area

Impression: Not sure if this is a rebranded Maibock but again a gorgeous deep amber hue with an impressive ample rocky head and richly malty nose featuring caramel. It’s fuller-bodied than I remember the Maibock being and rich for 6.5%. It’s still got caramel in the palate but hops are more up front, making for a marvelously dry Bock. The bittersweet finish is moreish and I could see this being dangerous on tap at their pub. Would be interesting to drink this head to head with their Maibock but the hoppier character points to it being a different beer.
