Tucher Mautkeller Rotes Lagerbier
Brewery: Tucher Mautkeller
Town: Nürnberg
Style: Rotbier 5%
Color: unfiltered amber to red
Head: off-white, thinning
Nose: light malt
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, malty, sticky
Finish: lingering, sticky
Served: on tap at the Tucher Mautkeller in Nürnberg
Impression: I wasn’t sure this was actually a brewery until talking to the brewer from Bruderherz who confirmed that Tucher had taken over the old Barfüßer Hausbrauerei but kept doing smaller batches of a Rotbier (and an unfiltered Helles) solely for this large sprawling restaurant. It came out looking the least impressive of all the Rotbiers I sampled on this day specifically designated as one to try/re-try all of the Nürnberg Rotbiers. The head was thin and there was little nose. The palate was primarily malty and much stickier in the finish than even their commercially brewed Nürnberger Original Rotbier.
