Hausbrauerei Altstadthof Roter Bock
Brewery: Hausbrauerei Altstadthof
Town: Nürnberg
Style: Roter Bock 6.4%
Color: unfiltered dark amber
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: richly malty, dried fruit
Body: full
Palate: balanced, malty, roasty, some dried fruit, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, a bit sticky
Served: on tap at their attached Bräustüberl
Impression: Though on a Rotbier specific tasting tour, I couldn’t resist this Roter Bock. There’s none of the butter as in the regular Rotbier but it’s still a rather sticky affair served perhaps favorably in a .4l. Nothing compared to their summer offering, a lovely hoppy and dry Sommerbier.
Back to the beer list.
Disnt realize but I guess Nurnburg is known for Rotbier. Overall though it sounds as though Nurnburg brewers arent that skilled from what Ive seen you write
I’m working on a comparison of the Rotbiers now, will be ready for the weekend as putting the other pieces in place to link to them. As a huge fan of Bamberg, I have always had a chip on my shoulder regarding Nürnberg and am trying to give it a chance. That said, when it comes to beer, there really is no comparison. Still, you need to have a beer if there and there are a few places to enjoy doing that. Check out my city listing for Nürnberg is heading that way.
